Hudson Prince Engineering & Inspection provided engineering design services for approximately 1.7 miles of Prairie Valley Road in Carter County, Oklahoma. The project focused on upgrading an existing narrow rural roadway to meet current design standards while maintaining the existing corridor and minimizing impacts to adjacent properties, utilities, and environmental features.
Our team delivered a full range of design services, including survey, geotechnical investigation, hydraulic analysis and drainage design, roadway design, permitting coordination, and preparation of complete Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E). The design approach emphasized reconstructing the roadway along the existing alignment to the greatest extent practicable while replacing cross drains, improving side drainage, and upgrading access points to enhance long-term performance and resiliency.
Due to a design AADT exceeding 2,500 vehicles per day, ODOT design criteria were applied in lieu of standard county roadway guidelines. Improvements included geometric refinements, sight distance corrections, and the strategic use of curb and gutter sections to accommodate widening within a constrained footprint. Additional features such as turnouts for mailbox access and vehicle pull-offs were incorporated to improve operational safety. This project demonstrates Hudson Prince’s ability to apply state-level design standards and deliver context-sensitive solutions that balance safety, capacity, and corridor constraints.
